Double your impact with our matching fund opportunity

We have begun an ambitious fundraising campaign to raise $1,000,000 dollars by April 30, 2023.

To kick off this campaign, James A. Burton & Family Foundation has donated $150,000 and has offered to match donations from other members of our community up to a total of $450,000. We're grateful to those who have stepped up so far.

Now it's your turn to help!

Family Enterprise Foundation is a registered charitable organization:
Your tax-deductible donation will help build a better Canada and a brighter future for our next generation of leaders.

How your donation helps

To remain a strong, independent supporter and voice for family enterprise, your donation will help us build the fundamental infrastructure necessary to carry out our mandate in providing research free from undue influence.

We collaborate with others to provide research-based empirical evidence that supports family enterprises and Family Enterprise Advisors (FEAs) with educational resources, research and a stronger voice.

Priority projects seeking funding:

Sustainable Development

FEF will implement the Family Business for Sustainable Development initiative that will create a sustainable development path necessary to create change and result in environmental change. This initiative draws upon the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) to protect the planet by 2030. We aspire to have 100 family-owned Canadian companies sign a pledge by 2024 and begin the adoption of the Sustainability Indicators for Family Business (SIFB).

Interactive “Succession Planning Map” Project

FEF will offer an interactive road map to successful succession planning by highlighting the 7 unique and important steps that must be undertaken. From clarifying goal and priorities to reviewing your family strategy and planning the transition of responsibilities, this tool will aim at helping you, your family, business, and ownership groups avoiding the traps, softening the pain points to ensure a smooth and successful transition.

Engaged Philanthropy and Impact Investing Course

This five-unit online course for business families is dedicated to using their knowledge and resources to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Topics will cover Philanthropy Overall: Values, Vision, Mission and the Next Generation, Your Philanthropic Resources, Envisioning Your Family’s Active Philanthropy in Practice, Getting Ready to Give and Philanthropy Best Practices Impact Investing.

Intrapreneurial Program: Driving Inter-Generational Growth Through Intrapreneurship

FEF has developed an intrapreneurial program that brings two generations of an entrepreneurial family together with the goal of developing a new business or social project to help renew the organization, trigger innovation and transfer know-how from one generation of leaders to the next. Offered in Canadian Universities this program will encourage and facilitate the conversation around Intrapreneurship. The NextGen of business owners can see how a pivot can contribute to the business in a meaningful way and allow for a path forward. By encouraging next generation members to utilize existing resources to develop business projects that will be connected to the family business, the senior generation are in turn helping to breathe new life into the legacy that they will pass on.
