Stretch, Learn and Lead!

 |

At BFFwe love to hear about people who are on learning journeys that generate new insights about who they are. On that topic, here’s an edited version of our conversation with Professor John Davis about preparing the Next Generation for leadership:

"My advice to the senior generation is to insist that the Next Generation should stretch themselves. You have to encourage them to go beyond their comfort zone in terms of what they know, what they feel good at, how they relate to others.

By doing this theyll learn:

  • what are my deep strengths?
  • where are my vulnerabilities?
  • when do I really need advice and help from others?

When they leave university, don’t offer them a comfort zone!Tell them to get out in the world and find themselves, find their real interests, find out who they are and what they want to do.

This will help them build a sense of confidence and self-efficacy.They’ll have a better idea about how they can fit in and add value.

And then you can think about inviting them back."
