Follow Your Own Passions

Listen to Angelo Esposito discuss the pressure that comes with being a member of the rising generation in family business. Many people believe that being next in line to a family business is glamorous and exciting, however, for many, the idea of being a part of the business is overwhelming. In order to achieve success, it is important that the next generation pursues a domain in which they are passionate about.

I think that anybody the grows up with you know, a family business, there is that pressure almost of, of going into it, and a lot of people think that, or assume that, oh, you’re so lucky, you have a family business, but they don’t realize that there’s a lot of weight on the shoulders that comes with that and a lot of the times, especially our generation, we want to pursue our own interests, our own passions and sometimes, although there’s a great opportunity to pursue the family business, at the same time, you do want to pursue your passion. So for me, my father was in the grocery business and I went into night life, tech space, and you know and if I look at some of my friends, they had great, you know, accounting firms lined up for them cause their father was in that business for 20+ years, and then their musicians, so I think there is that pressure and a bit of guilt, but at the same time, you know, our generation, we do have that, that innate feeling to just follow our passion and kind of pursue that as well.
