The Importance of Personal Reflection

My advice is, when you grow up in a family, especially when it’s a successful family, you are often protected from having to ask yourself the really profound life questions. Like, ‘what do I really want to do? What’s really important to me? What is my purpose?’ Because often times, your identity and that of your family’s identity become so intertwined that it’s difficult to disaggregate the two and when you family identity is one that is built around some affluence, there’s no real pressure to even ask that question. And I think if you are really, truly, going to be an entrepreneur, you have to be very clear on what those personal questions are. Because there will undoubtedly be challenges, and challenges that are not one that you expect and at the end of the day you have to be able to come back to that core personal self-confidence to be able to make it through that. And that is why having that singular clarity, at a very personal level, becomes very important because it’s from there that you will draw the confidence that will allow you to overcome it and prevail over whatever challenges you face.
