Fostering the entrepreneurial spirit

Listen to François de Gaspé Beaubien discuss the notion of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit in the work place. When planning for the next generation, it is important to create an environment that supports them in the innovation of new business ventures. Allowing next generation members to follow their passion, will ultimately benefit family members as well as contribute to the success of the family business.

I think it starts at a very young age. You want to share the stories. You want to share the successes and you want to share the failures, cause unfortunately, human beings are built on learning from our mistakes. I would have it so there’s incentives in place, there’s means in place so people can be, pursue their passion. And I will tell you this, put an environment in place that incentivises supports that any generation to go into business. Not make them feel like they have to, cause some may end up wanting to be artists, or a writer, or journalists, or a cinematographer, which are all – any vocation is a great vocation. What you want to do is to help them find their path. My parents have this expression of, blooming, plant, bloom where you were planted. The analogy being that, use your own God-given attributes and work off of those, your strengths. You can support the generation in the endeavor that makes them passionate. I believe if their passionate about something, it’s no longer work, it’s their vocation. So combining capital, instruction and support along with something that their passionate about.
