Sibling Partnerships

When consider a sibling partnership as part of a succession plan, it is important to work on sibling relationships from early childhood. The sibling dynamics, values and rules that children learn early on, will transgress through adulthood, and play a role in determining the way in which siblings cooperate as business colleagues.

Even from the very beginning involved us in business, I still remember, I’d come home from school and there’d be homework, but not homework, school homework. There would be family homework. The benefit was we were very close from a very young age. I mean one of my greatest regrets is that our sister lives so far away, distance is an issue. Its not something that happens overnight, right if you are looking at your children and they’re 18 and you say ok now I’m going to work on a sibling partnership. Ladies and gentlemen, its possible but statistically speaking, good luck. Right? You’ve got to start way back. And frankly, you start when they are born and that when you start – I mean it- you talk about feedback, working together, you know how do you communicate. All these are building blocks that overtime get to a functional family relationship. My best friend is my brother.
